Breakneck Hill Full Moon Halloween Hikes

Join the Southborough Stewardship Committee for Full Moon Halloween Guided Hikes at Breakneck Hill Conservation Land on Saturday, October 31, 2020. Hike with children at 6:30 PM; adult hike scheduled at 8:30 PM. Due to the COVID-19 group size limitations, preference will be given to Southborough residents for this event.

We invite you to explore Breakneck Hill in a whole new (moon)light and enjoy the splendor of the night sky. Weather permitting, we will hike grass-covered trails through open fields of this 90-acre property. This will be an easy-to-moderate hike.

• Adult w/kids hike (6:30 PM): Two groups; approximately 40 minutes roundtrip
• Adult hike (8:30 PM): Two groups; approximately 60-75 minutes roundtrip with a stroll to the summit for the best views! With clear skies, we should be able to see Mars, Saturn and Juniper.
• Hikes are free of charge; registration required due to COVID-19 attendance restrictions.
• Please remain in your car until a volunteer checks you in
• Halloween costumes welcome!

WHEN:

• Adult w/Kids Hike Group #1 and #2: meet at 6:15 PM, promptly start at 6:30 PM
• Adult Hike Group #1 and #2: meet at 8:15 PM, promptly start at 8:30 PM

WHERE:

• Hike will start at the trailhead located off Breakneck Hill Rd
• Parking available for about 10-12 cars; when you arrive, please remain in your car until a volunteer checks you in.
• Parking is limited; hikers are asked to leave promptly after the hike
• Trailhead parking is located across the road from 73 Breakneck Hill Rd.
• use this address for GPS directions only; parking only available across the street at the trailhead (on-street parking is not allowed)

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

• Dress warmly, wear sturdy sneakers/hiking boots, and use bug repellant
• Bring a flashlight; headlamps not allowed
• Groups will hike together (socially distanced), stay together and return together
• Group size is limited to twelve (12), including guide, due to COVID-19 safety guidelines issued by the MA Office of Energy and Environment Affairs (EEA)
• Groups #1 and #2 will be separated and will have staggered start times
• Face coverings and adequate social distancing are required
• You will be asked to complete a COVID-19 and general waiver of liability during registration
• For group registrations, information for each attended will be collected; acknowledging the waiver will apply to all members of the group
• Adults will acknowledge the waivers for their children
• Except for this guided hike, visitors of Breakneck Hill are not allowed on the property after dark. You are welcome to enjoy the trails between dawn and dusk.

In case of rain, the hike will be cancelled, and you will receive an email notification. We will confirm weather conditions with you the day before the hike.
